Il carato- ct
The carat is the standard unit of measurement of the weight of diamonds and other precious stones, and takes its name from the carob seed which in the past was used as an element of comparison. It was not until the early 1900s that carat weight was associated with the metric system, which is used globally today. Carats (abbreviated as ct) can be divided into hundredths called points.
Il colore
Le pietre di maggior valore sono quelle totalmente incolori, denominate comunemente “bianche”. Più il diamante è incolore, più aumenta il suo valore. I diamanti incolori corrispondono soltanto ad una piccola percentuale di quelli estratti, in quanto più del 90% dei diamanti hanno sfumature di base giallastre e brune.
La fluorescenza
Esistono anche altre condizioni che possono influenzare il costo di un diamante, una di queste è la Fluorescenza.
Sottoposti a radiazioni ultraviolette, i diamanti possono dare luogo a fenomeni di fluorescenza, che solitamente si manifestano con colori blu-azzurri più o meno intensi e più raramente, anche gialli, verdi, rosa.
Le gradazioni variano da None, Faint, Medium,Strong e Very Strong.
Purity
Diamond clarity is a parameter used to evaluate the transparency and rarity of a gem, based on the visibility of these characteristics under 10x magnification. The cut of the diamond is determined by the way the facets react to light, and by symmetry, proportions and polish.
La qualità del taglio
La qualità del taglio non si riferisce alla forma del diamante (rotondo, ovale, a goccia, ecc…) ma alle sue proporzioni, alla simmetria e alla lucidatura.
Anche se è estremamente difficile da analizzare e quantificare, il taglio del diamante produce effetti sull’aspetto generale della pietra.
“Excellent” : il massimo di fuoco e brillantezza. Il diamante riflette quasi tutta la luce che entra nella pietra creando il massimo di scintillio e di vita.
“Very Good” : il diamante riflette correttamente quasi tutta la luce che entra nella pietra, creando un fuoco e una lucentezza molto buoni. In condizioni di luce normali, il “Very Good” assomiglia quasi perfettamente a un taglio eccellente con un prezzo inferiore.
“Good” : il diamante riflette la maggior parte della luce che entra nella pietra, ottenendo un buon aspetto generale.
“Fair” : gran parte della luce che entra nella pietra esce lateralmente o dalle estremità del diamante. Il taglio “fair” non è più accettabile.
“Poor” : la maggior parte della luce che entra nel diamante esce lateralmente o dalle estremità. Il diamante sarà quindi spento e senza vita.
